Labradorite is a shaman stone, and the iridescent (labradorescence) sheen is the veil between this world, and the unseen ones. This stone is used to awaken the subtle senses, and was long considered to be frozen fire fallen from the aurora borealis.
Labradorite brings out the latent powers from within, it is the spark which ignites the shaman soul inside, the walker of realms, the ability to perceive, and our intuitions.
In an alchemical sense, labradorite is a stone of transformation, bringing unseen qualities to the surface, revealing inner beauty, turning the mundane into the fantastical and revealing hidden truths.
“A man is like a bit of labradorite spar, which has no luster as you turn it in your hand until you come to a particular Angle; then it shows deep and beautiful colors”.-Ralph Waldo Emerson
This is a stone of the ancestors, as the shimmer on the surface hints to the complexity beneath, bridging this world with the next, so too are we connected to our ancestors through the rainbow bridge, or the blood consciousness. They have plenty to offer us in ways of wisdom, healing and guidance, if we only revere and respect it when it comes, honoring the ways of our ancestors and seeking the stories they tell. The ultimate wisdom comes when we learn the knowledge is within us.
Labradorite is a massively powerful stone, and can be used in a wide variety of craft, for many purposes but is grounded in such positive, healing protection, this stone is not one used for negative magic.
I use beaded bracelets made from labradorite chips and quartz crystals to give healing, vividly powerful massages, and employ a labradorite necklace when I need to be honest and truthful, or infuse my words with positive power. I also have an amazing labradorite pendulum that is highly in tune with my tuitive energies. Labradorite can be used in the home or worn on the person for protection, self empowerment and to ensure honest behavior in yourself and others around you. Employed actively, labradorite is used for prophecy, divination, dream magic, psychic healing and all the subtle senses.
DIY Labradorite Whisperstone / Talisman
All you need:
piece of labradorite (a tumbled stone, bead or pendant works fine)
crystal or glass goblet (clear is best)
protection herbs of your choice (I would recommend angelica, basil, dragon’s blood, vervain and mugwort)
fresh spring/river water (not chemically treated, or distilled if you must, best if harvested straight from fresh running water)
Under the Full Moon, outside beneath the starlight, place your labradorite piece in goblet, add herbs, pour water over stone and herbs until goblet is brimming, but do not let it overflow! (this takes finesse, and it is okay to practice). Bless the goblet and ask for protection, honesty and self-empowerment, use whatever ritual or words you find pleasing; allow to sit the full length of night. The next morning, empty goblet in garden or nearby plants, blessing the plants, the mother, etc. Enjoy! Recharge your talisman beneath every full moon if you feel it is necessary, but whispering encouragement into the stone as often as you like helps too! If you ever feel the energy of the stone polluted, bogged down, or muddled, preform a cleansing and start over again!
